Exploring the Food Web
Kathy Cothran

"The lion will eat all of those things! He's the king of the jungle!" "No, I think that people are at the top of the food web since we can hunt for all those animals." Third graders really enjoy learning about the food web and discussing the many possibilities.

"Tadpole's Promise" (by Jeanne Willis)
   "Tadpole's Promise" (by Jeanne Willis)

First I read the story "Tadpole's Promise" (by Jeanne Willis) where a caterpillar and a tadpole fall in love and tell each other that they'll never change....but we all know what will happen to the tadpole and caterpillar.... yet, we can't ever expect what happens at the end of this story as the Food Web kicks in and is even more powerful than love....

Then, using Kidspiration we illustrate a food web, starting with the sun as the energy source, adding plants, and then animals.
